Where is the reset button on my air conditioning unit?

As the desert heat doubles down, the roller coaster of weather patterns often means cranking up and slowing down your AC Unit. All of this winding up and slowing down can be taxing on your equipment. If you’re finding your AC unit isn’t working properly, one of the best things you can do is learn how to use your air conditioning unit’s reset button. In this article, we will show you where the reset button is located on your AC unit and explain what it does to the overall unit.

When would you need to reset your AC Unit?

Brown and blackouts are the two most common reasons why you’d need to reset your AC unit. Brownouts happen when there’s a decrease in voltage, but not a total loss of power.

Blackouts are complete power outages caused by things like storms or downed power lines. If you experience a blackout, it’s important that you wait until power is fully restored before resetting your AC unit. Resetting it too soon could damage the compressor.

That said, brownouts and blackouts are the more extreme examples of why you’d need to reset your unit. If your Air Conditioner is having any of the following issues, it may also need to be reset:

– The Air Conditioner is suddenly not working at all

– The Air Conditioner is not blowing cold air

– The Air Conditioner is making strange noises

– The Air conditioner smells bad (for more information on this, visit The Mysterious Smell Coming From Your Air Conditioning Unit

If you’re unsure whether or not your AC unit needs to be reset, it’s always best to consult with a professional. They will be able to diagnose the issue and tell you the best course of action.

Before you click the reset button...always check your air filter

If your AC unit is not cooling your home or office space as efficiently as it should, resetting it can help. The first thing you want to do is check your air filter and make sure it isn’t clogged. A clogged air filter will restrict airflow and cause your AC to work harder than necessary. If the air filter looks clean, the next step is to find the reset button on your AC unit and give it a push.

How to reset your Air Conditioning System

The location of the reset button can vary depending on the make and model of your AC unit. However, it is typically located near the compressor. The compressor is the large outdoor unit that makes a humming noise and helps circulate cool air into your home.

Here are some quick steps to follow:

  • Unplug the Air Conditioner from the power outlet, count to 30, then plug it back in
  • Locate the reset button
  • Press and hold the reset button for three to five seconds
  • Repeat as needed

If you’re still having trouble finding the reset button, consult your Air Conditioning’s owner manual or give us a call. We’ll be happy to help you out!

What if my AC Unit doesn’t have a reset button?

Older model Air Conditioning units may not have a reset button. If your unit doesn’t have one, don’t panic! There are still a few things you can try.

First, check to see if there is a switch near the compressor unit that says “on” or “off.” If the switch is in the “off” position, turn it to “on.”

If there is no switch near the compressor unit, locate the fuse box and check to see if the fuse associated with your AC unit has blown. If it has, replace it with a new fuse and see if that does the trick.

As always, if you’re having trouble resetting your AC unit or it’s still not working properly, give us a call.
